The two main platforms announced the release of their own solutions :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2013\/01\/22\/windows-azure-media-services-opens-up-adds-new-platform-for-developers\/\">Microsoft with Azure Media Services<\/a>\u00a0(the 22th of January)<\/li>\n<li>one week later\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 16px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/aws.typepad.com\/aws\/2013\/01\/amazon-elastic-transcoder.html\">Amazon with Elastic Transcoder<\/a> (the 29th of January)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I made some posts to introduce Azure Media Services (<a title=\"Microsoft Azure Media Services \u2013 How to encode in the Azure Cloud \u2013 Part 1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alkannoide.com\/2012\/08\/24\/microsoft-azure-media-services-how-to-encode-in-the-azure-cloud-part-1\/\">part 1<\/a>, <a title=\"Microsoft Azure Media Services \u2013 How to encode in the Azure Cloud \u2013 Part 2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alkannoide.com\/2012\/09\/12\/microsoft-azure-media-services-how-to-encode-in-the-azure-cloud-part-2\/\">part 2<\/a>) available after May \u00a02012. Here is a quick overview to compare those different services.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Platform Models<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a quick overview of each platform models.<\/p>\n<h3>Amazon Elastic Transcoding<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1326 alignnone\" alt=\"elastic_transcode_platform\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alkannoide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/elastic_transcode_model_1.png\" width=\"547\" height=\"374\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Azure Media Services<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alkannoide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MediaServicesArch.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1327\" alt=\"Media Services Architecture\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alkannoide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MediaServicesArch.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 1.8em; line-height: 1.5em;\">Functionnalities<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This table exposes the differents features supported by each solutions.<\/p>\n<p>[table id=3 \/]<\/p>\n<p>Both solutions give the opportunity to create our own presets but there are also some generic presets available : for iDevices, for mobiles, generic profiles for SD and HD.<\/p>\n<h2>Pricing<\/h2>\n<p>Each cloud company applies its own pricing, not based on the same parameters.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"line-height: 24px;\" alt=\"Amazon Elastic Transcoding\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alkannoide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/transcoding_icon.jpg\" width=\"60\" height=\"72\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Amazon side, the price is\u00a0based on output content duration. You have two prices :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for Standard resolution (less than 720p) : 0,072\u20ac per minute<\/li>\n<li>for HD (more than 720p) : cost of SD x 2 per minute<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"windowsazure\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alkannoide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/windowsazure.png\" width=\"100\" height=\"76\" \/>Microsoft, on the other side, applies on Azure Media Service a pricing on encoded GigaBytes\u00a0processed. They count input and output datas. The pricing begins at 1,99$ by GigaBytes up to 5TeraBytes \/ Month.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.windowsazure.com\/en-us\/pricing\/details\/#header-9\">It reduces<\/a>\u00a0when you use more the service. This prices don&#8217;t include the storage on Amazon S3 or Azure Storage.<\/p>\n<p>To choose the good one, you need to make a table to compare, it depends of your usage.\u00a0I will try soon to expose one or more architectures based on those two services to manage video assets.
